Contact Carolyn
Carolyn Denomme Egelman, Ph.D., is an engineer turned social scientist passionate about the intersection of technology, data, and how people and organizations utilize these resources.
Carolyn is currently a Research Scientist in the Insights Consulting Group at Medallia, Inc. helping clients turn their customer and employee feedback data into actionable insights to drive business results. She completed her PhD in December 2012 in Engineering & Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. Her doctoral advisors were Erica Fuchs, Linda Argote, and Dennis Epple. She graduated from Penn State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and was a member of the Schreyer Honors College.
Her dissertation research looked at organizational learning and knowledge transfer in a high tech offshore manufacturing setting. Carolyn has spent time on the ground in factories throughout Southeast Asia to observe first hand the challenges they face and how they adapt, through both technical innovation and business practices, to stay competitive while producing ever-evolving technologies. In addition to this contextual experience, her research relies on a combination of tools involving decision cost modeling and large-data statistical expertise. [More on the research]
In addition to her research, she also spends time developing ties within her local community – at Carnegie Mellon, she was an active leader in the Graduate Student Assembly. Carolyn also enjoys gardening, scuba diving, and traveling.
